Urban seeks to unlock Lezuri's secrets Tanjiri system hides ancient megastructures Living moon orbits an Earthlike world Dragon's fleet awaits a critical decision Lives depend on Urban's next move

Long ago Lezuri warned that Tanjiri is not for everyone, yet Urban still carries the impossible puzzle Lezuri left him: a twelve-centimeter, ultra-thin needle whose silvery surface splits light and contains all of Lezuri’s locked knowledge. Urban can only gain that knowledge if he discovers how to open the enigma, and he believes doing so will let him face what waits in Tanjiri.

Dragon and its fleet of outriders has reached the periphery of the Tanjiri system, a maze of ruined megastructures and a quieter interior where an Earthlike world orbits a living moon created less than four thousand years ago. The system has offered no reply to Dragon’s hails, and Urban fears the maker of that moon may be greater than Lezuri and that the lives of everyone he loves will depend on what he does with the needle.

Urban believes he must unlock Lezuri’s mysterious twelve-centimeter needle before Dragon’s fleet enters the silent, hazardous Tanjiri system where a maker may wait.

Reader guide

What to Know Before Reading Needle

The description focuses on a central puzzle and a looming external threat. Much of the setup centers on Urban’s personal connection to Lezuri’s needle and his belief that its knowledge will affect the lives of those he loves. The speculative elements include ruined megastructures, an Earthlike world, and a living moon created under four thousand years ago. This may appeal more to someone interested in exploration, high-stakes confrontation, and technological mysteries within a spacefaring setting.
