Bastard daughter seeks revenge Jousting against House Hauteclare Rides the war machine Heavenbreaker Struggles with inner demons Complex relationship complicates vengeance

The duke of the powerful House Hauteclare is the first to die, killed with the narrator’s dagger in his back. The narrator is a bastard daughter who was supposed to die with her mother on the duke’s order, and she now carries icy-white rage and a need to make House Hauteclare pay for leaving her and the Station’s starving commoners to suffer.

To seek vengeance she rides Heavenbreaker, one of the enormous machines left over from the War, jousting against the system’s fiercest nobles so each win means another enemy dies. She struggles as the machine seems to contain something horrifying and more, and she finds herself dangerously drawn to someone she cares about while hunting revenge.

A bastard daughter kills the duke of House Hauteclare and rides the War machine Heavenbreaker to joust nobles and exact revenge across the Station.

Reader guide

What to Know Before Reading Heavenbreaker

Book focuses on revenge and violent competition within a stratified space station society. Much of the setup centers on a bastard daughter who survives an order for her death and uses an enormous War machine, Heavenbreaker, to challenge nobles. There is an explicitly supernatural or uncanny element tied to the machine itself. The premise balances external action and personal stakes, and it may appeal more to readers interested in space-set vendettas, machine-based combat, and tense interpersonal conflict.
