Hel was born a slave, or perhaps not, and is driven by a confusing compulsion to keep building something. Roy "Hellno" Herzog is a pirate who prefers to work alone and now has a lead on a prize that might change everything if he can track down one runaway slave.

Maurice "Moss" Foote, Hel, and Roy "Hellno" Herzog converge in no-man's-land space while pursuing a centuries-old mystery and their own desperate goals.

What to Know Before Reading Lost Souls

Moss is down to his last hundred credits and needs the money to reclaim his old ship. Hel is a young stowaway with a compulsion to build something and an uncertain past that may include slavery. Roy Herzog is a solitary pirate chasing a single runaway slave as part of a much larger prize. The setup centers on survival, pursuit, and a deep-space mystery that pulls these three very different people together.

About the author

Noah Chinn

Noah Chinn is a writer, editor, and cartoonist whose fiction and non-fiction has been featured in Amazing Stories, The Globe and Mail, Knights of the Dinner Table, and other magazines. He bicycled across Canada to ask people about the future, moved to Japan to live in the future, moved to England to start a future with his wife, then back to Canada to write about the future. Because the future is always worth fighting for. His Get Lost Saga has been called "the far-future Hopepunk series for our times" by The Ottawa Review of Books, and is a refreshing blend of classic and modern science fiction, balancing drama and humour to create stories that are both comforting and challenging. Amazing Stories describes the series as "an old-fashioned space opera... but also so full of original touches, cynical humour and quirky detail that everything feels fresh and original. The best of both worlds." He, his wife, and their pet ferret now live in Vancouver. He wears a hat.
