Childhood memories in Dhaka Friendship with Nadia shapes choices Conflict between faith and family Experience navigating college life Struggles to hold on to happiness

One of Maria Chaudhuri's early memories growing up in Dhaka was planning to run away with her friend Nadia. Home was not an especially unhappy place, but in Maria's family, joy was ephemeral. With a mother who yearned for the mountains and a charismatic but distant father, they struggled to hold on to happiness. Maria's journey takes her from a conflict between her faith and her family to the complexities of her experiences in college.
