Nora Stephens’ life is books; she is a ruthless literary agent who champions her clients and cares fiercely for her younger sister, Libby. Nora does not see herself as the plucky or sweet heroine the world expects, and she resists small-town reinvention even when asked to join a sisters’ trip to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August. Instead of pastoral transformation, Nora repeatedly runs into Charlie Lastra, a bookish, brooding editor from the city. They have crossed paths many times and never with charm, and a string of staged coincidences forces them together, threatening the stories they have written about themselves.
