Doctor Silas Coade is the physician aboard voyages that span centuries and modes of travel: an 1800s sailing ship that crashes off the coast of Norway, a 1900s Zeppelin probing an icy canyon in Antarctica, and a far-future spaceship bound for an alien artifact. He is charged with keeping his crew safe as they adventure across the galaxy in search of that mysterious artifact, yet each excursion goes horribly wrong. Only Silas appears to recognize that these disastrous events keep repeating themselves. He must investigate why the same catastrophes recur, how they link the disparate expeditions, and whether he can prevent those cycles from happening again.
