I just finished The Poison Daughter and I have massive beef with Sheila Masterson. I personally think we were robbed of a second book because how could you make me fall in love with the characters in this story? Just for you to give us a standalone. I gave The Poison Daughter five stars. It's a dark fantasy romance that follows Harlow and Henry, the two main characters. They are children of an opposing enemy family and they end up getting betrothed to each other. It has a really unique magic system where people are either blessed by the divine or they're not and depending on who you're blessed by each person has a different set of powers. For it being a standalone I thought the world building was really good and that's part of the reason why I wanted a second book. I thought there was an opportunity there to go deeper into the world and certain characters like the drain and obviously I want to read more about Henry and Harlow. This was an enemy's lover's with really good tension, lots of secrets and the plot twists were definitely plot twisting. I have to say I absolutely enjoyed every second of this book.
