Against All Odds

Against All Odds tells the untold story of four of World War II’s most decorated soldiers—Maurice “Footsie” Britt, Michael Daly, Keith Ware, and Audie Murphy—who served in the same unit and earned the Congressional Medal of Honor. Their service spans more than six hundred days of combat, from the beaches of French Morocco and the deserts of North Africa to the campaign to liberate Europe and Hitler’s mountaintop fortress in Germany. The book follows concrete episodes of battlefield heroism and survival, notes Britt’s unique record of valor awards, Daly’s West Point departure and repeated risks to save his men, and Ware’s rise to general and his wartime debt to Audie Murphy. It also examines how the Medal of Honor carried heavy expectations for these four after the guns fell silent.
