Mexican Gothic

After receiving a frantic letter from her newly-wed cousin begging to be saved from a mysterious doom, Noemí Taboada travels from Mexico City to High Place, a distant mansion in the Mexican countryside in glamorous 1950s Mexico. Her cousin’s husband is a handsome English stranger, and the household is dominated by an ancient patriarch whose fascination unsettles Noemí. A stylish debutante unfit for sleuthing by appearance, Noemí is nonetheless tough and determined. She finds an uneasy ally in the family’s shy youngest son while the house invades her dreams with visions of blood and doom. As she unearths the family’s faded mining empire and stories of violence and madness, Noemí is drawn deeper into High Place and risks being unable to leave.
