About the Book

Swag

Ernest Stickley Jr., the smallest of small-time criminals, thinks his luck has changed when Detroit used-car salesman Frank Ryan catches him trying to boost a ride from Ryan's lot. Rather than turn him in, Frank pulls Stickley into a string of surefire get-rich-quick schemes—all of them involving guns—and promises that if Stickley follows "Ryan's Rules" he will share the wealth. As the plans move forward across Detroit and its used-car yards, the partnership strains under practical risks and mismatched competence: sometimes rules need to be bent, maybe even broken, and the operation's supposed "brains" knows less than nothing. The clash between Frank's confident schemes, Stickley's small-time ambitions, and the violent methods they depend on produces unpredictable danger, moral compromise, and mounting pressure on both men.
