About the Book

The Long Goodbye

Fast-talking private eye Philip Marlowe is a moral man in an amoral California of the 1940s and 1950s. He forms an uneasy friendship with a drunk named Terry Lennox, and when Lennox turns up late one night, guilty and asking for a ride to the Tijuana airport, Marlowe agrees despite his unease. Soon Lennox’s wealthy, adulterous wife is found murdered; Marlowe is arrested; and Lennox is later discovered dead in Mexico, an apparent suicide accompanied by a signed confession. At the same time Marlowe is hired to watch over an author and ensure he delivers his next book, forcing him to juggle two increasingly dangerous cases. As corruption and deceit close in, Marlowe must fight to retain his integrity and survive.
